borrowed matter is always in movement (toward new containers)

series of 4 archival pigment prints on cotton rag, 20 x 30 inches (2023)

Borrowed matter is always in movement (towards new containers) captures the moment towards the end of a fire when ghostly ash-forms, at the precipice of complete dematerialization, hint at what has been burned. To me this moment captures the temporary and porous nature of all things, the way the very matter that composes us, and everything else, is only ever borrowed. In this is a vital impermanence, a fuel (quite literally) for the processes of metamorphosis and renewal that life on this planet needs.
